The second edition of the MovieMed meetings, which took place in Ouarzazate, Morocco from 19 to 22 January 2011, has largely contributed to strengthen the existing synergies between Mediterranean tourism stakeholders and audiovisual professionals: Film production, when efficiently used, can indeed be a motor of economic growth, producing benefits both directly within the film sector and indirectly for the local economy through tourism and the media. It can therefore have a great leverage on promoting territories, which should be seized by local economic actors. Launched by the Moroccan Minister of Communication and government spokesman, Mr. Khalid Naciri, the MovieMed meetings have given the opportunity to more than 300 professionals of the tourism and film sector to meet and to develop cooperations in this field of common interest. Best practices workshops, business meetings and film-tourism awards have been successfully organised, leading already to concrete partnerships, such as the one concluded between a British company, Open Brolly, and a Mediterranean film commission for the implementation of an interactive website, or the one proposed by a French organisation, the City of Culture and Tourism Development, to support a Mediterranean film in its approach of the sustainable development. The location of the future Moviemed edition should be announced soon: Spain, France and Egypt are candidate to welcome the 2012 edition. The MovieMed 2011 edition has been organised by the Ouarzazate film Commission and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Marseille Provence in partnership with four other Mediterranean countries.
